One of the world’s biggest private equity firms—the Carlyle Group—is looking to raise US$4 billion for a new fund to invest in oil and gas assets as it seeks to seize opportunities after oil majors Carlyle Group LP is trying to raise a $4 billion fund that will invest in oil-and-gas assets outside of North America, according to a person familiar with the matter. The fund plans to buy companies active in the energy supply chain and will use them to acquire assets in exploration and production, refining, marketing and oilfield services. Most private equity investment in oil and gas is concentrated in the US but Carlyle has a London-based team hunting alternative opportunities from the North Sea to Southeast Asia.
