Harvard researchers Gompers, Ishii, and Metrick (2003) constructed a Governance Index (G-Index) consisting of 24 governance provisions that weaken shareholder rights and ranked companies based on their scores.
Our data are derived from publications of the Investor Responsibility Research Center. These publications provide 24 distinct corporate-governance provisions for approximately 1,500 firms since 1990.4 In Section II, we describe these provisions and data sources in more detail. CGLytics carried out a proxy review with data from its extensive, global governance database of FTSE 100 companies and their pay practices. The study revealed that in 2018, 33 companies in the index sought a binding shareholder approval for their remuneration policies.
